Avis Budget Group Car Sales Manager in Detroit, Michigan

Job Summary

The Car Sales Manager will join the Fleet Car Sales team at Avis Budget Group (ABG) at a pivotal, evolutionary time. The team is responsible for growing profitable pre-owned sales to retail consumers. Over the past year, marketing, sales, and operational efforts have generated an increase in consumer leads and sales.

This role will be located in Detroit, MI and is responsible for working closely with our Call/Sales center for “online” retail sales, and our Field operations teams on all customer-centric activities related to the Avis & Budget retail car sales programs. This role is critical to ensuring the growth of the ABG retail car sales distribution channel. This position will report to the VP, Fleet Sales & Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Interface/consult with call center manager on pricing inquires, operation issues & metrics, scripting, and reporting.

  • Assist call center manager and Avis close car deals via phone and/or e-mail.

  • Help drive and manage gross profit, and ability to drive finance and product penetration.

  • Follow up on daily test drives with the ABG Operations, Supply Chain, and Local Market teams; as well as call center sales consultants.

  • Work closely with Avis Supply Chain teams to ensure vehicle quality standards for vehicles prepped for customer test drives, including developing/executing robust field accountability, metrics, and reporting on “issues” and “successes” by Region and location.

  • Help call center in locating vehicles for submitted customer leads in situations where the identified vehicle is out-of-service or is still be utilized as a rental vehicle.

  • Support/serve as backup to work with ABG Virginia Beach and Tulsa locations to ensure the pricing accuracy of and the timely recording of reported sales.

  • Provide support to the ABG Independent operators on program questions/quality requirements/supplies at the local market locations.

  • Help manage 3rd party inventory listings, and monitor listings for competitive pricing.

  • Help obtain maintenance requests for customers from internal ABG systems.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, or related field

  • Five or more years of sales, operations, or call center experience

  • Automotive experience preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills

  • Tenacity and drive for results

  • Proven Process and Project Management experience

  • Track record of success working in a fast paced environment, being persuasive and effective even where no direct reporting relationship exists

  • Working knowledge of ABG systems is highly desirable

  • Demonstrated team building experience
