Avis Budget Group Sustainability Manager in Parsippany, New Jersey

We are seeking a Sustainability Manager, supporting the execution the Global Corporate Sustainability strategy and its connection to Avis Budget Groups overall CSR strategy. The Manager will play a key role in implementing the company’s sustainability efforts, manage company-wide projects on specific issue areas, and help facilitate sustainability goals executed by the organization. The Sustainability Manager will identify ESG issues, conduct gap analyses, manage sustainability reporting and develop and implement strategies to improve Avis Budget Group’s sustainability practices. This role reports to the Global Vice president of Care.


  • Manage all aspects of public sustainability reporting, investor survey responses and other stakeholder communications such as ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics, DJSI, Ecovadis and CDP

  • Track and monitor marketplace, industry and sector specific trends related to environmental, social and governance issues

  • Manage internal and external stakeholder engagement

  • Keep abreast of ESG trends and advise business leaders about sustainability trends that will impact their business

  • Facilitate and manage ESG data collection across all locations

  • Analyze, interpret and develop reports aligned with standard reporting frameworks such as the GHG Protocol

  • Manage third party vendors and stakeholders as appropriate

  • Assess requests for information from 3rd party stakeholders; coordinate responses

  • Support the development and completion of the annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report

  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and board committees on sustainability

  • Present information and updates to business units on relevant market trends, opportunities, and best practices

  • Lead company sustainability activities such as Earth Week

  • Work with business to increase employee commitment and participation in sustainability initiatives

  • Track performance against goals

  • Develop process to identify and prioritize ESG issues for the company; develop and implement project plans based on this assessment

  • Identify and assess potential ESG risks and integrate ESG issues into the enterprise risk management process

  • Identify opportunities and implement processes to integrate ESG into investment management process

  • Working with the business, develop internal and external goals including environmental targets to ensure continuous improvement of sustainable business practices

  • Providing support and guidance to staff in implementing sustainability initiatives and applying sustainability principles to operations.

  • Identify potential projects across the organization that could potentially reduce our environmental impact

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop new sustainability programs and policies, such as: environmentally preferable procurement and waste diversion.

  • Work in close collaboration with key internal business leads to execute strategy

  • Support GHG inventory and carbon accounting working towards achieving established goals

  • Gathering data for the company sustainability reporting process and investor and customer surveys

  • Develop sustainability initiatives and programs for our retail operations in partnership with other key functions

  • Develop goals, objectives and targets for driving more sustainable facilities

  • Ability to travel up to 10%


  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)


  • 3 - 5+ Years of experience sustainability

  • Experience responding to requests from DJSI, Sustainalytics, MSCI, EcoVadis and CDP

  • Experience in developing sustainability reports

  • Experience with GHG reporting and measurements

  • Experience working in a multi-branded global company with high-profile consumer brands a plus.

  • Experience managing multiple, disparate projects simultaneously.

  • Strong Communication skills are required

  • Ability to self-direct and multi-task

  • Superior organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

  • Easily adaptable to change

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

  • Excellent understanding of generalist sustainability concepts, including social and environmental standards (e.g. UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and SDGs, Carbon Disclosure Project, Global Reporting Initiative, UN Global Compact, etc.)

  • A valid driver's license is required for all positions.
